What is CareBOX Program’s mission?CareBOX Program provides free essential care supplies to cancer patients to help prevent malnutrition, infections, and injuries from falls.
Who is CareBOX Program?
Cancer has a physical, emotional, and financial impact on everyone who has the disease. The CareBOX Program is an innovative Austin based nonprofit launched in October 2014 to address a serious gap in cancer care for patients in the Central Texas region. Patients are invited to build a custom wishlist of care supplies from a list of 40 items, specific to their needs, based on their diagnosis and effects of treatment. These are primarily items not covered by insurance and many barriers exist to the patient and their families that prevent access to the supplies they need. The CareBOX Program removes these barriers by providing supplies at no cost and delivering directly to the patient’s home.
What is a CareBOX?
CareBOXes (generally a trunk-full of supplies) include mobility items to help avoid injuries and falls, nutritional supplements to defend against malnutrition, and infection prevention supplies. CareBOX Program strives to maintain a maximum of two weeks from patient application to delivery of items, ensuring the impact is immediate. The program is open to all patients regardless of age, race, income, or type of cancer. Beyond improving the lives of the patients themselves, the program also benefits the family members and caregivers in their lives. Take a look at our product list here.
Who does CareBOX Program serve?
CareBOX Program currently serves anyone who is undergoing treatment for cancer in the Central Texas area. The 6 counties we serve are Travis, Hays, Bastrop, Caldwell, Burnet, and Williamson. If you are unsure about your eligibility, please call us at 512-296-2180.
What kind of supplies does CareBOX Program supply?
CareBOX Program offers a list of over 40 different items, some of which are not covered by insurance, that help prevent injuries from falls, infections, and malnutrition. Some available items include disinfectant wipes, hand sanitizer, non-latex gloves, nutritional shakes & walkers.
How do I sign up to receive a CareBOX?
Getting signed up is an easy, 2-step process. First, please fill out the Wish List Builder. Next, we will need a Verification Form signed by both you and a representative from your treating facility found.
After we have those 2 pieces we can deliver the supplies directly to your home via a Volunteer in about a week (timing may vary depending on the items in stock). Our volunteer drivers deliver to your door step, no need to worry about shipping!
How many CareBOXes can I receive?
Patients are eligible to receive a CareBOX every three months as long as they are still undergoing treatment in the Central Texas area. You may request all items again with exception of any durable mobility items previously received. Please give us a call at (512) 296-2180 or email info@careboxprogram.org for questions concerning eligibility.
How do I sign up to receive another CareBOX?
Once it has been three months since your last delivery, you may sign up again by filling out a new Wish List. Your Verification Form is valid for a year. If it has been more than a year, we require an updated Verification Form in addition to the updated Wish List.
